Here is a recording of an out of tune F4 unison.

You may not think this unison is out of tune. But to really find out, we need to listen to the higher partials. (Go HERE for an explanation of the harmonic series.)

Now, listen to the F4 again, but this time, I will filter out each partial so you can hear it beating, then I will play the whole unison again so you can try and pick out the individual beating partials that are contained in the sound of the complete unison.

You will hear the complete unison, then the following partials filtered: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, then the complete unison again.

Here are the measurements for each partial. Note that this may pass as an in tune unison in some tests, like the RPT exam, but this unison was detuned on purpose, for the purpose of moving the Double String Unison. (Double String Unsion is a highly accurate, precise, and efficient technique used in the Go APE method described HERE)
