Mark Cerisano, RPT
B.Sc.(Mech.Eng.), Dip.Ed.

Are you thinking of, or trying to learn how to tune pianos?

If you are, I know the pain you are experiencing intimately.

My name is Mark Cerisano and I am a Registered Piano Technician, but I wasn't always.
In fact, when I started, I was pretty doggone awful!

My unisons were bad, my stability was bad, I couldn't set a temperament, my stretch was off. Basically I was just faking it. Most people didn't know, but I did!

And I couldn't find anyone who could help me. I mean, really explain to me what to do and why it worked. I was frustrated!

People tried, but I would always be able to ask them questions they just couldn't answer and that bothered me because these were good questions.

The answers to these questions would finally help me learn to become a great aural piano tuner.

Nobody could answer these questions, so I had to answer them myself.

- Is 1 bps wide really the best size for the P4, or is 3 beats in 5 seconds narrow really the best size for the P5.

- How can I make very small changes in pitch and have it remain stable?

- Do I have to hurt my ears with damaging hard blows every time I tune?

- Is guessing at the octave size the only way to tune the treble and bass?

- How can I fast track my ear so I can finally hear these beats?

Well, I finally did it. I figured out exactly how to tune a piano by ear that produces the best results ever!

I'm never worried that my aural tuning will ever be criticized by any pianist or concert hall manager, ever, because I have been able to figure out a way to tune pianos by ear that works.

- Never have to use hard blows again!

- Tune a temperament in one pass!

- Never have to use multiple checks again!

- Make tiny changes in pitch (<0.5 cents) and have it remain stable!

- Super charge your ear to hear beats more clearly!

- Finally know exactly where to place every pitch, whether mid-range, treble, or bass, so that the tuning sings!

People will be amazed at what you are able to do. They will be asking, "How did you get my piano to sing so sweetly in the treble? I love it!"

Other piano technicians will be amazed at not just how much you know about piano tuning theory, but how you are able to get accurate, precise and efficient aural tunings after only a few months when they been struggling for 30 years.

Well, attend this conference and you will be able to tell them that you learned the Go A.P.E. Aural Piano Tuning System for the most Accurate, Precise, and Efficient aural tunings ever!

Classes Offered

1. Basic of Piano Tuning Theory: Finally understand what they are talking about!
Learn the difference between a 4:2 and a 6:3 octave and how to use Check Notes and Coincident partials, as well as many other basic piano tuning theory concepts that can help us tune a piano better.

2. Inharmonicity: How to Tune Beautiful Octaves.
What it is and how to measure it aurally. Basically a pure 4:2 produces different size 6:3's on different pianos. Learn how to measure inharmonicity aurally so you can choose the most accurate temperament sequence for the specific piano you are tuning.

3. Stability: Get pitches that stay, without using damaging hard blows.
There are many descriptions of how to get good stability but not many that describe why a certain technique works. Learn why a technique works and what to do when it doesn't work.

4. Tuning the Temperament (Pre-requisite: Class 2, Measuring Inharmonicity)
With the help of the skills you learned in class 2, you will learn how to use that information to select the most accurate temperament sequence for your piano. It will be so accurate that you will only need one test to correct a note - the check that tuned it in the first place!

5. Tuning the Stretch: Get the same result each time - beautiful, singing tone.
With the same accuracy that you tuned the temperament, you can also tune the treble and bass. Learn how to tune pure P11 (8ve + P4), P12 (8ve + P5), P19 (2 8ves + P5), and P22 (triple octave) all at the same time!

6. Pitch Raises: Another way to get fast accurate results.
You will learn about the traditional way to tune pitch raises and also a way that does not require a rough pass.

Testimonials

Nathaniel LeNassa

Professional Classical Pianist

“I began studying piano tuning with Mark in late March, as a total beginner. I was shocked, and delighted, to discover how quickly his detailed, comprehensive approach gave me the confidence I needed to start working on my own piano. Mark’s approach to piano tuning seems to me equal parts science and art. The tunings I have been able to accomplish inside his system sound clean, open, and vibrant to my ears; but I also appreciate his empirical approach to the temperament and stretch that allows me to track my progress in a concrete way. Mark’s keen understanding of my capabilities makes our lessons incredibly exciting; I come away with lots to think about, but I have never felt out of my depth. Given that our lessons take place entirely online, I have to say that Mark is one of the best teachers of any subject I have ever met. I never thought I would be able to learn this much completely remote. It’s a joy to work with him each week.”

"We have looked up much tuning knowledge and consulted many masters.
In recent years, comparing to other old concepts, we find your lessons very innovative and creative.
The equal temperament you teach is awesome.
We especially love the super stability part: the bend test and tension band.
In the past, we thought to bend the tuning pin was bad and harmful.
However, the way you express the bend test really inspires us.
As to the Beat-Speed-Windows-Temperament-Sequence F3-F4, it's quite useful and won't accumulate errors "

Scott Copeland

Beginning Piano Technician

"I became a member of Howtotunepianos.com about a year ago.  Prior to joining, I was beginning to dabble in piano tuning, but I couldn’t find any information about the temperament or about stretch that was specific.  Mark’s Go A.P.E. method is incredibly specific, and sets you up for quick success in piano tuning.  No need to tune 1000 pianos before you know what your octaves should sound like.  No more endless refining of a bad temperament. There is a specific method to everything!  Thanks to Mark, I am now tuning 4-5 pianos per week for profit."

This conference promises to be the most valuable you will ever attend. Learning how to tune pianos aurally to a level that has been proven to beat the most expensive electronic tuning devices when used by students using the method for only a few months means that you will have at your finger tips, the most accurate, precise, and efficient method known that will allow you to tune concert level tunings with ease using only your ear.

Looking forward to seeing you online!
