How to Tune Pianos

Concert Level Tuning of a Steinway D Using the Go A.P.E. Aural Piano Tuning System

FREE CONTENT

This concert tuning uses the Double String Unison technique which is much more accurate and precise than setting single strings, even if you are using an open unison tuning technique.

You'll also notice me setting and checking pure P11/12/19/22 using check intervals like:
Pure P11 (8ve + P4): m6 = M6
Pure P12 (8ve + P5): M6 = M17
Pure P19 (2 8ves + P5): m3 = M17
Pure P22 (3 8ves): m6 = M17

Having all these intervals pure is what gives the stretch a singing quality. Just guessing at making octaves "wider than normal" can work, but it takes decades to master. Setting these large intervals pure is easy and gets the job done quick.

You also notice that I am tilting/massaging/bending/flexing/flag polling the pin. If you think there is something wrong with bending the pin in this way, then there's nothing I can teach you. The Go APE Aural Piano Tuning System for more Accurate, Precise, and Efficient aural tunings uses a tilting approach which is advocated by Dan Levitan and Nick Gravigne, among other concert level technicians.

Hope you enjoy this and please don't hesitate to send me questions and comments.
